Makenna Ashlyn

Makenna is seeming so old lately. I really can't believe that she is going to be five next month! Seriously, when did that happen? I register her for kindergarten this week and I can't even think about her being in school. I am hoping I come to terms with it before September. :)

She is such a big help with Hadley and around the house. I was trying to eat dinner the other day (without my husband, which is very common lately) and Makenna said "Mom, I'll read books to Hadley so that you can eat." Moments like this take my breath away because I realize how grown up she is becoming. And it makes me love her even more. She is always saying "I just want to be big like you." Everything is about being "big". And though I really love the age she is at, I wish she wouldn't try to rush it. It goes so fast anyway. So as we always tell her- "Stop growing. No getting big in our house."

Makenna LOVES the movie, Barbie's Three Musketeers. She gets dressed up like this (all by herself) and acts out the entire movie. I think that she has every line memorized. And note the broom for her sword. She said to me, "Mom, we need to get me a sword". Ummm... no, not gonna happen.

Our Love Day

We are lucky to be surrounded by LOVE every day and we have fun celebrating that each Valentine's Day, or "LOVE Day" as Makenna calls it.

For some reason, Valentine's Day makes me want to do crafts and bake treats. So, that's just what we did. We got a package from Grandma Patti and Aunt Momo. We made homemade valentines, treats for Makenna's preschool, a mobile to hang above our table, and butterfly art. And we, of course, had our annual Valentine's breakfast. We even made some heart desserts that we had after Travis spoiled us with a delicious dinner.

 

Snow Fun

There are two types of snow people: those who hate snow and want to get away from it, or those who can't get enough of it and just want to play in it. We are definitely the latter. We have so much fun in the snow and look forward to it every winter.

So, we headed to Sun Valley for a long weekend to play in all of the fresh snow there. We packed in as much stuff as we could and had so much fun. It was a weekend full of fun in the snow, amazing food, and family. We stayed at Travis' grandparents condo, which is right next to the ski mountain. I love that the whole area revolves around skiing. My brother works on the mountain and scored us passes for half cost. How sweet is that? Some may call us moochers, but we like to think of ourselves as resourceful. :)

On the way home, Travis said to me, "I don't see how this weekend could be topped." Well, we'll just have try. ;)

Here is a break down of our trip:

DAY 1:

We took my brother cross-country skiing for the first time, sledding, FINALLY making snow angles (Makenna has been asking all winter), soaking in the hot tub, going out for pizza
*The girls both zonk out in the backpacks. They are getting a little too big to carry, let's just say it's a good workout.

DAY 2:

Downhill skiing at the Sun Valley Resort (my first time skiing there- it was beautiful and challenging), horse-drawn sleigh ride to a cabin for dinner (AMAZING! The girls LOVED it!)

DAY 3:

Cross-country skiing, lunch at a lodge, hot tubbin' it, games

And of course, what trip wouldn't be complete without a sick kid? Poor Hadley had a fever, cough, and runny nose the entire time but still managed to enjoy it most of the time. What a trooper!
