Makenna-isms

I figured it was time to give updates on our two girlies. It's a good addition to the blog book so we can remember the funny quirks about these two at their current age.

I still can't believe MAKENNA is six, I keep slipping up and saying she is still 5. I don't know if it's her little size or just the fact that time has sped by. But she is acting so much older, can have an attitude, and makes us laugh with her sarcastic comments. So I guess there's give and take to every age.

HERE ARE MAKENNA'S QUIRKS AT SIX YEARS OLD:

  • Loves, loves, loves the movie "Hairspray". She watches it over and over while singing and dancing to all of the songs.
  • Likes to make lunch or breakfast for her and Hadley. This started during my morning sickness when I couldn't get out of bed some days. She's a lifesaver.
  • Is always worried about her clothes "matching" and her hair being done.
  • Is READING! She has really taken off this year and can read through most 1st grade level books with just needing help with a word or two. Travis and I are so proud of her. Apparently the past month after library at school each week, she would read her books to other kids.
  • Is excited to be having a brother. When we didn't know what we were having, she would say, "I think Jesus is going to send a boy so Daddy isn't all alone." Apparently, she knew what she was talking about.
  • Does not like going to bed. She'd rather stay up and be a night owl like her mom. Thank goodness for summer vacation!
  • She likes to be scratched like a dog. She likes her back scratched and then rolls over for her stomach to be scratched. She says I have good itching nails.
  • Is the teacher's helper at school. If the teacher gets interrupted, she asks Makenna to finish showing flashcards or help other students. I love that she's not afraid to be a leader and is sure of herself enough to get up in front of a crowd. She's come so far!
  • Has developed a little attitude when she is frustrated or tired. I hope it's a stage. Luckily, it's not very often.
  • Can't wait to go on our summer trips. She keeps asking when we can go camping. ...A few more weeks Babe.
  • Is always thinking of others' needs. She is MY HELPER and I don't think I would survive most days without her. I think she'll be my saving grace once we have three kids.
HERE ARE SOME FUNNY THINGS THAT SHE HAS SAID:
1) Before we went to the ultrasound, she asked how we can tell if the baby is a boy or a girl. So, I explained that with the ultrasound machine, we look at the baby's private. She was floored. "What? Are you serious? We can't look at the baby's private!" And then it turned into a giggle for the rest of the day and during the ultrasound. She's such a modest little thing.

2) We were watching Dora the other day (which Makenna isn't a big fan of) and Makenna turned to me and said, "Boots' mom is kind of creepy, huh?"

3) At school last month, they were learning about things that grow. So, the kids brought baby pictures and were talking about babies. Well, one very curious boy asked, "How are babies born?". The teacher kind of paused trying to think of an appropriate answer when Makenna chimed in and said, "God and Jesus just sent them down." Makenna's teacher thanked Makenna and wiped the sweat off her brow. :) ...and then had to answer his next question, "But how does the baby come out?" Ha, ha. Kindergartners are so funny.

4) She uses these phrases a lot: "Really, really?", "Totally.", "Are you kidding me?", "Oh, come on!"

She loves her popcorn.

This was so cute. We were in a hurry one morning, so Makenna did all of the breakfast dishes and cleaned the kitchen.

She really likes ballet and is getting pretty good at it.

Our Sleeping Beauty

I'm glad that her prince isn't coming for a long time. I just want to keep her little forever.

Spring Cleaning

After getting out the spring/summer clothes (I know, wishful thinking), I decided that I needed to clean the shoes I pulled out. So, I filled up the sink with hot water and soap. Well, the girls came to see what I was doing and wanted in on the scrubbing. So, they went and got well, almost all of their shoes, to scrub. It cracked me up that they loved it. They thought it was the funnest thing to do. They were humming while they scrubbed, did some shoes twice just for fun, and were bummed when we were done. I'm going to have to remember this one. What else could I put them to work scrubbing? Hmm...

Puppy Fix

A few months ago, we got to play with some super cute little puppies... six to be exact. Frank (my mom's man) raises and trains labrador retriever to be hunting dogs. They got 6 new puppies in February so we had to go and see them before they got too big. Makenna and Hadley L.O.V.E.D. them. They got to hold, cuddle, and love them to their heart's content for two days. Makenna fell in love with a little puppy named Rebel, which happened to be the least-cuddly puppy of the bunch. But for some reason he cuddled right up to Makenna the whole time. She pretty much had a puppy in her arms every minute and the puppies seemed to love her gentleness. And Hadley couldn't get over the fact that she could pick them up and carry them around wherever she wanted. They were just her size. She especially loved when a puppy fell asleep on her lap. She wasn't quite so gentle, so the puppies just wanted to play with her. I'm sure the puppies (and the momma) were glad when we left. :) Since then, we haven't heard the end of us apparently needing a puppy. How about we have a baby instead? :)

Easter in Boise

We spent Easter in Boise with my family. It is always so much fun. I have spent almost every Easter that I can remember in Boise. And it turns out my kids love it as much as I always did. I have learned that Easter is not this big of a thing to a lot of families, but it is to ours. Makenna and Hadley were so spoiled and loved every bit of it, especially playing with their cousins, egg hunts, and my aunt's room full of Barbie stuff. And we, of course, ate way too much delicious food.
