A Stubbornly Smart Girl

It's no secret around here that Makenna can be one stubborn girl. She is so sweet and tender most of the time, but when she picks a fight, she intends on winning. Another thing you should know about her is that she is the PICKIEST EATER EVER. She won't eat anything and will decide one day that she doesn't like something anymore. It's so frustrating and a constant battle for us.

So lately, all she wants for dinner is pasta. Plain noodles with butter. And though we try to pair it with some sort of fruit or vegetable, it's not very nutritious. So, I decided that she needed some protein. So, we picked a happy medium with chicken nuggets. And though she had just had them at a restaurant a few days earlier, she decided that she didn't like them and she was NOT eating them. So we told her that is what was for dinner and that it was her choice if she wanted to be hungry. And oh, the drama. The crying, the screaming, the kicking... you get the point. So we sent her to her room and told her when she was ready to eat, she could come out. So the rest of us ate dinner and out she came with this note:
Translation: Thanks for my not liking you. So good-bye and I'll see you later.

And she meant for this letter to really show us how mad she was. But Travis and I thought it was the cutest thing and we were so impressed with her inventive spelling. Parenting is funny. She wanted it to be mean and we totally loved it. So, Travis asked her if she was going somewhere and she said "Just to my room. Good-bye."

So, finally after over 2 hours of crying, she decided she was really hungry. So, we negotiated on how many nuggets she had to eat before she could have a little of something else. (I know we're suckers. But in our defense, we were so tired by this point. I think every parent knows this feeling.) She ate them in like 2 seconds with no problem. All of the drama for that?

So the clincher? Guess what she requested the next night for dinner? Chicken nuggets! Seriously? Travis and I just started laughing. This girl is just stubborn. (My mom said this story sounds just like me. My poor parents.)

We have got a few of those letters! Brooklyn usually draws a heart that is broken and says we hate her. (SO SAD)We have had to explain that just because we are mad at her doesn't we don't love her! kids are fun!

But look how literary she is...At least she can write out her frustrations. I'm afraid pay back is occurring well here. She's adorable though; y' gotta love her!

Isn't it crazy how sweet and cute they can be one moment and then incredibly determined and STUBBORN the next? Loved the story but felt for you....

Haley is the same way!! She is soooo dang picky. She won't eat anything, unless it is Ramen Noodles, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, or burritos. I always tell her the same thing you do. "This is what's for dinner. So if you don't want to eat it then fine, but you don't get anything else tonight." Good to hear I am not the only one out there fighting about food!
