We headed to Wind Cave National Park for the day to check out the famous cave. The Black Hills had caves everywhere. There's something adventurous about going into a cave because how often to we get to explore beneath ground? This cave was huge, it had over 100 miles worth that had been discovered and the end still hasn't been found. We did a 1/2 mile tour of the natural entrance that lasted for an hour and a half. We descended the 300 stairs into the dark and cool (felt soooo good) cave. The girls were both excited and nervous about going deep into the cave. Camden was not so much of a fan. He had a cold, so I think the air pressure bothered him a little bit. But, mostly I think he didn't like the darkness because that usually means it's bed time and also, he's in the moving stage, so he didn't love being held for that long. So that meant it was a good work out for me walking this and entertaining him. The best part was when the guide turned out the lights (the pathway was dimly lit) and said to be as quiet and still as possible to get a feel for the cave and apparently Camden thought that meant squirm and cry. Oh well, I'm sure everyone got the idea. :)
We all really enjoyed the tour of the cave. The box work, or spider web-like pattern on the ceiling was really cool. It was a good adventure to add to our list and one more national park to check off. We love our National Parks!
